In this episode, I reflect on how reading has transformed my approach to writing and self-awareness. I begin with a quote from Annie Proulx: "You should write because you love the shape of stories and sentences, and the creation of different words on a page." This reminds us that storytelling isn’t just about putting words down—it’s about appreciating the craft in every sentence.
I discuss how we all naturally tell stories every day—about the world, ourselves, and our experiences—and how those stories influence our mindset.
Inspired by Stoic philosophy, I emphasize that we have the power to control the narrative we tell ourselves. We can choose to focus on growth and positivity rather than reactive negativity, shaping our internal story in ways that empower us.
Next, I share why I personally prioritize reading daily.
I believe reading broadens our horizons, sharpens our thinking, and deepens our self-understanding. Even just 15 minutes a day—whether in the morning or evening—can make a significant difference. I encourage you to treat reading as an essential part of your routine, like eating and sleeping, because the insights gained are invaluable for personal, professional, and spiritual growth.
I also highlight the importance of reading for becoming a better writer.
The most successful people I know are avid readers—they’re always seeking new ideas, perspectives, and techniques. For me, reading is a way to improve my craft, live more intentionally, and connect with new thoughts and stories. It’s an ongoing process of learning that fuels creativity and clarity.
And finally, thanks for tuning in!
Be sure to like, share, comment, and reach out—I love connecting with other writers and readers.
Remember, the stories you tell yourself shape your reality. Keep reading, stay curious, and I’ll see you next time!
P.S. If you’re looking to improve your writing through the study of Classic works such as: Moby Dick, A Farewell to Arms, Huckleberry Finn, and more, check out my writing program, The Literary Alchemists Writing Program, to help you write 3x faster, clearer and with greater depth. It is a 4-week course that takes just 15-minutes a day to complete. I look forward to hearing from you soon and I hope that you have a great day!
