#027: "Books open your mind, broaden your mind, strengthen you as nothing else can." -William Feather

In this episode, I share my personal journey with reading and why I believe it’s such a vital tool for growth, creativity, and self-awareness. I kick things off with a quote from William Feather: "Books open your mind, broaden your mind, strengthen you as nothing else can."

I discuss the powerful impact of fiction and how it allows us to explore different perspectives, learn about different eras, and understand the world through the eyes of authors like Dickens and Twain. I also reflect on my own evolving relationship with reading—from phases of disinterest and rebellion during childhood, to discovering my love for classic literature and philosophy in recent years.

I detail my current reading routine, which includes dedicating 15 minutes every morning to philosophical texts like Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, and winding down at night with hours of reading to close out the day. I emphasize how reading broadens the mind, fuels creativity, and enhances writing skills—citing famous authors like Hemingway and Stephen King who advocate for daily reading.

Furthermore, I discuss how reading can make you more interesting, spark new ideas, and increase your ability to communicate clearly and authentically. For me, the combo of reading and journaling is one of the most effective ways to stay connected with your inner world.
